Acupuncture Treatment for Tinnitus
Acupuncture is an effective treatment for tinnitus
Just this morning (March 21, 2026), Lok-Kwan treated two patients for tinnitus and a partial loss of hearing. In both cases, only one ear was affected. One patient was diagnosed with Ménière’s disease eight months ago and has lost 80% of the hearing in the affected ear. The other patient’s tinnitus and hearing loss began three weeks ago following a bout of an ear infection. Both patients reported improvements from their recent treatments. One patient noted that she does not notice the condition as often, while the other stated that it no longer interferes as much with her thinking.
Tinnitus is the perception of sound, such as ringing or buzzing, when there is no external source. It is a medical symptom, not a disease, often indicating damage to the auditory system. Most people have subjective tinnitus, where only they hear the noise, though a very rare "objective" type can be heard by others. Common causes include noise-induced hearing loss, ear infections, and aging. If symptoms persist for six months or more, it is considered chronic. Severe cases can disrupt sleep and concentration, potentially leading to anxiety or depression.
Over the years, Lok-Kwan has treated many cases of tinnitus; all but two patients reported improvements, and there were even a few “magical cures,” to use the patients' own words. Lok-Kwan has developed a tried-and-true protocol that incorporates traditional acupuncture points and neuro-acupuncture stimulation. There is a core treatment that is always administered, along with several supporting acupoints that vary from one treatment to the next. Patients usually begin to notice improvements after the very first treatment.
