Long COVID

Long COVID is a complex condition where health problems persist or emerge at least three months after an initial infection and cannot be explained by other medical reasons. It can involve over 200 symptoms affecting various organ systems for months or even years. Scientists believe the underlying causes may involve microclots blocking oxygen to muscles, mitochondrial dysfunction where cells fail to produce energy, or an immune system misfire that attacks healthy tissue. A hallmark feature is Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM), a delayed energy "crash" triggered by minor physical or mental tasks.

Common Long COVID symptoms we treat in our clinic include:

  • Profound Fatigue: Deep, unrelenting exhaustion that does not improve with rest.

  • Brain Fog: Cognitive dysfunction including memory loss and difficulty concentrating.

  • Respiratory and Heart Issues: Shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and POTS (dizziness upon standing).

  • Chronic Pain: Persistent muscle aches, joint pain, and recurring, deep headaches.

  • Sleep and Mental Health: Insomnia, nightmares, lasting anxiety, and depression.

  • Sensory and Digestive Changes: Loss of taste or smell and gastrointestinal issues like bloating or diarrhea.

  • Physical Changes: Hair loss, rashes, and menstrual irregularities such as heavier periods.
