More Evidence of the Effectiveness of Neuro-Acupuncture for Tremor

This is a new and different patient from my last post. Last Sunday I treated him for the first time. He showed significant tremor on his left hand which calmed down with treatment. I did not record anything to show.

Today was his second treatment. I had him draw a straight line and a circle before and after treatment.

Top drawing is before and bottom is after treatment. Note the marked improvement in smoothness especially on the vertical line after treatment. Both drawings are a bit childlike because patient drew with his left non-dominant hand. I had him do that because it was his left hand that showed most tremor.

Treatment of Tremor with Neuro-Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an effective, non-drug option for treating tremors, often with immediate results.

Tremors caused by traumatic brain injury (TBI), also known as post-traumatic tremors, are involuntary, rhythmic muscle movements that result from damage to specific motor-control regions of the brain.

Key aspects of TBI-related tremors include:

  • Causes: They occur when a head injury disrupts neural pathways in areas like the cerebellum, basal ganglia, or thalamus. This damage can be caused by direct trauma, brain swelling, or bleeding.

  • Common Types:

    • Resting Tremor: Occurs when the muscles are relaxed and at rest.

    • Action Tremor: Happens during voluntary movements, such as reaching for an object (intention tremor) or maintaining a specific posture (postural tremor).

    • Holmes Tremor: A rare, complex combination of rest, postural, and intention tremors characterized by a slow frequency and large, "wing-beating" movements.

  • Timing of Onset: While some tremors appear immediately, they often have a delayed onset, emerging anywhere from one month to two years after the initial injury.

Treatment of autism and aphasia with neuro-acupuncture

IMG_3464.jpg

I have been treating a pair of four year old autistic twin brothers with aphasia since 2017. Due to the few needles needed in neuro-acupuncture - I'm only using three now - and proper needling techniques the acupuncture part has never been difficult in spite of their age. When we first started one of the twins only had a few words while the other had even less. Progress did not come readily. Mother was frustrated at times. I explained to her that the treatment promoted the formation of neuronal circuitries that facilitate speech and social behavior and although internal changes were happening it would take time for results to be seen. It is an extremely demanding task raising two autistic kids and many things can trigger off many negative emotions so I always tried to encourage and reassure the parents. But then my young patients started to show improvements, first gradually and then in the last couple months made some dramatic progress both in speech and social behavior. I would characterize the improvements as a breakthrough. It wasn't just learning a few more words but it was a whole new way of orienting to the environment and other people that indicates new neuronal circuitries have been formed. I expect expanded gains to come rapidly hereon. This is what mother has to say:

"I'm a mother of twin 4-year-old-boys with autism and aphasia. In my research for things that my boys can benefit from I came across Lok- Kwan, who is an expert in neuro-acupuncture! He has been very helpful in helping my kids become more verbal and expanding their language. I started going to Lok- Kwan in 2017 and am still presently seeing him. I've seen gradual but consistent improvement in my kids expressing themselves with words. Lok-Kwan has definitely played a role in their improvement. I'm glad I stepped out of the box and tried acupuncture, something I wouldn't normally try with kids who are only four years old."
