Stroke Therapy

Lok-Kwan has treated numerous stroke patients since 2007. Early treatment is crucial for recovery and rehabilitation from physical symptoms. Recovery is most rapid during the first three months, as rehabilitation leverages the brain's plasticity - its ability to rewire itself—to regain lost functions. Neuro-acupuncture is a superior therapy option for strokes.

A stroke is a critical medical emergency and a leading cause of long-term disability, occurring when blood flow to the brain is interrupted (ischemic) or a blood vessel ruptures (hemorrhagic). The resulting impairments depend heavily on the site of the lesion.

Damage to the left hemisphere often leads to aphasia, a disorder that impairs a person's ability to speak or understand language. In contrast, right hemisphere strokes frequently cause unilateral neglect, where patients fail to notice stimuli on the left side of their environment. Physical effects commonly include contralateral hemiparesis, which is weakness on the side of the body opposite the brain injury. Additionally, brainstem strokes can cause dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), significantly increasing the risk of aspiration pneumonia. Neuropsychiatric challenges are also prevalent; roughly one-third of survivors experience post-stroke depression, anxiety, or apathy.
